Your Role:

As Lead CMF (Color, Materials, and Finishes) Designer you will be tasked with the development and coordination of interior and exterior color, material, and finish designs for projects within the FF brand. You will be responsible for trend research, analysis and translation, mood and story creation, material innovation, development of CMF strategy, and execution of final color, materials, and finishes for production.

A successful CMF Designer demonstrates the ability to create compelling and innovative solutions that push boundaries while collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation into production. Our ideal CMF Designer holds high standards for quality, attention to detail, builds strong relationships with other team members, and enjoys a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop color, materials and finishes for upcoming FF products
  • Develop digital and physical presentations that show a future CMF vision for FF designs
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, including design and manufacturing, to implement production of final CMF designs
  • Analyze and approve color, materials, and finishes for all vehicle exterior and interior surfaces
  • Guide design execution of colors, materials, and finishes for both prototype and production vehicles
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors. Includes identifying new resources for materials to ensure innovative designs
  • Independently source and maintain a comprehensive internal library of inspirational, advanced, and relevant materials and finishes
  • Manage design intent through color tuning and material mastering all commodities.
  • Evaluate color, texture, gloss and finishes while working directly with suppliers as necessary
  • Conduct benchmarking and trend studies
  • Attend Design and Engineering Meetings
  • Participate in design reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • A degree in Color and Material Design, Product, Transportation Design or related field preferred (equivalent in extensive experience considered)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in color and material development, preferably within the automotive space
  • High color acuity and ability to pass the Munsell Hue Color Test
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interface with internal design, cross functional product development teams and suppliers
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge of mass production, manufacturing processes, and materials
  • Strong organization and analytic skills to cohesively lay out commodity strategies and track multiple developments
  • Excellence at creating and maintaining cross-functional working relationships
  • Attention to detail and aesthetic sensibility
  • Highly motivated and collaborative taking ownership of projects and at the same time being objective and responsive to feedback
  • Self-driven and hands-on with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to travel if required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Digital capabilities in sketching/rendering (Photoshop / Illustrator)
  • Knowledge of rendering software (Keyshot, VRED)
